Texas Hardball
Untitled document      Let's work the core!  The area around the center of gravity in our body is very important to help with strength in throwing, hitting, and most all aspects of the game.  The core is also very important to the young players because they do not really need to get into the weight room at an early age.  Working all of the abs, deltoids(shoulders), and back are all with in helping the center of gravity.
Let's think about how we hit, how we throw, and move in the game of baseball.  Turning the body is a big part of what we do in most parts of baseball.  If we can strengthen those muscles that will help us do those moves with more balance and explosion, than we can create more power and quickness, whether it's throwing or hitting.  From my experience, we would like to do most strength movements standing on our feet(the game is played on our feet) but there are some exercises we can do sitting or laying down to help in this area.
Here are a few exercises we can do to help strengthen the core.
1.  Good old fashioned crunches.(hands behind head, pulling towards knees)
2.  Medicine ball twists(sitting or standing, medicine ball of your choice, not too heavy, keep the ball on your chest and turn side to side.  Explode, side to side.
3.  Push up turns. Normal push up, at the top take right arm and extend it towards the sky then come back down to push up position on ground. repeat switching arms being extended.
4.  Bridges.  (front) Lay down on the ground, put your forearms on the ground underneath you, now lift up on your forearms with your legs and stomach off the ground. (back) Lay down on the ground, same deal, forearms on ground, lift legs, etc. up off ground and hold.
There are many other things we can do to increase our core but this is an excellent start.
